Funds raised from Urban Descent: Perth events go directly to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation who have a passion for caring for children in WA.
Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation
Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation is dedicated to supporting excellence and innovation in child and adolescent healthcare at PMH, Western Australia’s only specialist children’s hospital.
Since establishment in 1998, we are proud to have provided more than $28 million to PMH. It is also estimated that nearly a quarter of all equipment in use at the hospital has been funded by the Foundation.
Today, PMH Foundation remains committed to meeting the constant demands on the hospital’s facilities, and is dedicated to supporting the continuing advancement of modern medical technologies and innovations in clinical treatments, by helping to fundraising for state-of-the-art equipment and research.
As the only charity that fundraises exclusively for the entire hospital, the Foundation is in a unique position to make a real difference to the lives of sick and injured children in Western Australia.
Proceeds from Urban Descent 2011 will be go to The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Princess Margaret Hospital which provides intensive and high dependency medical care to approximately 800 infants and children each year. Many of these children require the respiratory support of a ventilator, which mimics the function of the lungs and allows the staff to support a child who is otherwise unable to breath for themselves.
Although still utilised in PICU, the current equipment has become outdated and advances have improved ventilator modes and functions. The significant developments in this area warrant the PICU acquiring new ventilators to enable us to have the benefits of the latest technology and ventilation capabilities. The PICU believes that the strategy of having a single brand of ventilator is a sound strategy due to consistency of equipment and consumables.
The PMH Foundation’s kind donation to assist with replacement of ventilators will support the PICU to continue to deliver care of the highest standard to the infants and children of Western Australia.
